What can individual counselling help you to achieve?

Individual counselling could be relational, or personal. Perhaps you are struggling with your partner’s behaviour, or have suffered trauma, or going through bereavement. Individual counselling will help you to talk about what is troubling you, it can help you to gain awareness and enable you to move forward.

Individual counseling is an opportunity to receive support and experience growth during the challenging times in your  life. Individual counseling can help you or a loved one deal with many personal topics in life such as anger, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, career changes, etc.

Individual counseling (also referred to as psychotherapy, talk therapy, or treatment) allows individuals to explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

Individual counseling is counseling focused on the individual's immediate or near future concerns. Individual counseling may encompass career counseling and planning, grief after a loved one dies or dealing with problems at a job before they become big. Individual counseling is a one-on-one discussion between the counselor and the client, who is the person seeking treatment. The two form an alliance, relationship or bond that enables trust and personal growth.

Do you need individual counselling?

There are lots of different reasons for having individual counselling. Sometimes things happen that can throw you off track, or holding you back, or impacting on your life , or you feel stuck and don’t know how to move forward.

Sometimes we need help to deal with what is going on; we feel confused, or hurt, or angry. We can find it difficult to find a way forward by ourselves and just need to talk things through.

I can enable you to find a way through this or help you to move forward, or deal with your confusion.

Counselling will give you the opportunity to talk freely and openly in a safe confidential environment. I have many years of experience of working with people from different walks of life, religious beliefs and backgrounds.

You will find me warm, empathic, non-judgmental and professional.

Sessions are one hour, usually once a week and involve us talking together to create a better way forward.

Why me?

As an experienced counsellor, I have many years of working with individuals from many different backgrounds, religions and personalities. I am warm, approachable and professional, but also non judgment and impartial.

The sessions are confidential and provide a safe environment for you to talk openly. The first session will be give you the opportunity to talk about where you are at present, some background and to establish what you want from counselling and whether I will be the right person for you.

What can you expect from the sessions?

The sessions are ongoing and are not fixed. They are client led, so that you can end when you want. I work with your agenda and tailor the sessions to your needs. I welcome feedback, work transparently and review regularly. Reviewing gives the opportunity to look at what has been achieved and what you would like from future sessions. Sometimes this can be helpful as things change and what you wanted when you first came to counselling might be very different.
